Chiropractic Case Study 2

Patient: 17 year old female active in competitive school volleyball with no significant prior health history. Sustained unresolved and untreated injury to the right shoulder six months earlier through serving in volleyball.

Presentation: Recent onset (4 days) of acute non-traumatic cervicalgia and persistent right shoulder pain and restricted elevation.

SRA Evaluation: Revealed C4 right axial spinal reflex mechanism with secondary L5 right segmental dysfunction. All muscle, ligament, and joint reflexes were noted per SRA pattern. Of note was descending trapezius fibers anchoring the right scapula into retraction and depression while C5 root irritation was reducing rotator cuff (medial deltoid) strength and impairing right glenohumoral stability (infraspinatus and supraspinatous).

Treatment: CMT 3x over 7 days with pre-treatment percussion massage for compromised soft tissue per SRA pattern resulted in complete resolution of both complaints with full restoration of rotator cuff strength and ROM.

Recommendations: CMT PRN and home spinal rehab and progressive strengthening with therabands per SRA physical therapy protocols.
