Using the Low Level Light Therapy Unit with SRA Procedures

Low Light Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a relatively new approach to assisting soft tissue dysfunction and currently relies on acupuncture, trigger point, and local pain indices for treatment guidelines.

There are over 850 research abstracts on the Medline internet search site illustrating the safe and effective use of LLLT for varous medical conditions. There are mixed studies on musculoskeletal response to LLLT with the majority showing a positive effect. The LLLT physiological effect includes reduced edema, increased microcirculation, analgsea, increased mitochondrial metabolism, increased cell mitosis for replacement of damaged tissue, increased fibroblastic activity, increased cellular oxygen and nutrition, and accelerated wound healing.

The mixed results of LLLT with musculoskeletal conditions appears to rotate around the common approach in physical medicine of pain centric treatment. The idea that the point of pain is the primary point of dysfunction is one of the most prevalent stumbling blocks in managing these types of conditions.

A point of injury will require site specific treatment. However, it will elicit an ASR to manage the injury and this will require additional treatment to reduce amplification, slow recovery, and persistence of the complaint and associated symptoms driven by the ASR. Chronic conditions require ASR management in all cases.

Studies at SRI Intl. and in athletic racing events utilizing Class III and Class IV Lasers demonstrate that these units are highly effective when used according to SRA procedures for identifying and treating the active ASR in it’s entirety and then finishing by treating the site specific soft tissue and area of pain.

A dual Infrared diode laser and is applied with Neurologically based SRA Laser Protocols allows to perform shorter therapies, and achieve maximum results.

Both the Class IV portable and table top models from K Laser and the Class III from Chattanooga are available through SRA/SRI INTL. at a discount to students completing the course.

SRA exclusive LLLT Soft Tissue Procedures and detailed SRA Treatment Points are included with the purchase of all laser products through SRI INTL.

As with all therapeutic lasers, safety and correct procedures are required. Regulations vary from state to state and country to country, and you must check with your professional regulatory boards as to any training, license and usage requirements.
